Nominations have opened for the 2008 Kansas Teachers Hall of Fame awards.
Anyone other than a relative of the educator is eligible to submit an official nomination form, along with required documents that must accompany the form, according to Harold Hosey, District 2 representative for the KTHF.
District 2 includes the counties of Lyon, Chase, Morris, Coffey, Osage, Franklin, Anderson, Miami and Linn.
Nominees must have been administrators or teachers in kindergarten through twelfth grade for at least 25 years within the State of Kansas. Both active and retired teachers are eligible, Hosey said.
People making nominations need to include the following information and documents:
• List of Kansas teaching experience, specifying locations, subjects taught and years served at each location
• Special positions held, awards or honors received from civic, school, college, church or other groups
• Education background, listing university name(s), degree(s), and dates
• Community service
• Characteristics that set the nominee apart from other nominees
• Five letters of recommendation, including one from a former student, one from a fellow teacher, and three others of the nominator’s choice
• Photograph of the nominee
• Nominee’s educational goals and teaching philosophy, in 100 words or less and written by the nominee
Applications remain active for three years.
Nominations must be submitted on an official form that may be had by calling Hosey at 343-3710.
“Submit only information requested,” the form said. “Additional items and photos will invalidate the application.” Further instructions are on the form, which must be submitted by Feb. 15 to: Kansas Teachers’ Hall of Fame, PO Box 1674, Dodge City KS 67801.
