Emporia High running back Edd Noonan was selected to the 2008 Shrine Bowl as a member of the East squad. The selections were announced Saturday in Wichita.
Noonan, The Gazette’s 11-Man Player of the Year, rushed for 1,405 yards and 14 touchdowns on 235 carries this past fall to lead the Spartans to a 6-4 record and a berth in the Class 6A State playoffs, the school’s first playoff appearance since 2002.
Noonan was a first-team All-State selection in Class 6A and also was named first-team All-Centennial League.
The EHS senior will be joined on the East squad by two other area stars.
Waverly’s Dakota Foster and Lyndon’s Quinn Kirsop also were selected to play in the All-Star game.
Foster was an All-Area pick by the Gazette as a defensive lineman and also earned first-team All-Lyon County League. Kirsop was a crucial part of Lyndon’s run to the Class 2-1A State quarterfinals this season. The Tigers finished with a 10-2 record.
Lyndon head coach Rod Stallbaumer was chosen as an assistant for the East squad.
The 2008 Shrine Bowl will be played on July 26 at Welch Stadium in Emporia.
