Madison boys churn past Chase County

Saturday, January 5, 2008

After a sluggish start, Madison took control in the second half of its 54-39 victory over Chase County.

Madison led just 20-18 at the break before out-scoring Chase County 19-11 in the third quarter, helped by a 3-pointer by Eric Porter at the buzzer.

“Give Chase County credit,” Madison coach Alan Brown said. “They were really scrappy.”

Madison extended its advantage in the fourth quarter, winning that frame 15-10 to seal the victory.

Madison was able to overcome an off shooting night from Kaleb Schankie, who finished with six points.

Porter and Henry Ott stepped up their production, as Porter posted 20 points and Ott added 10.

Chase County was led by Brian Palermo’s 18 points. No other Chase County player scored more than five.

Madison, which won despite turning the ball over 20 times, will face Lyndon on Tuesday.

Even with the loss of their starting guard Blake Jones, who fouled out in the fourth quarter, the second half brought about a whole new game for the Wolves.

The Wolves dominated the second half, out-scoring the Bearcats 34-20 to smother any hopes of a Burlingame comeback.
