Emporia State’s alumni association profusely bled its black and gold. Now, its members will get their trophy and bragging rights.
The American Red Cross Central Plains’ first annual What Color Do You Bleed? blood drive wrapped up on New Year’s Eve, and the results are in. Emporia State’s alumni association held onto its lead over the other four state alumni groups participating in the event, registering the highest percentage of alumni to donate blood from Nov. 1 through Dec. 31.
Kansas State finished second in the competition, followed by Pittsburg State, Wichita State and Kansas. Final percentages for each school weren’t released. A total of more than 100 state alumni made donations, according to a Red Cross release.
Bev Kerbs of Emporia’s American Red Cross office previously attributed ESU’s lead to the job alumni leaders were doing in getting the word out about the competition.
All donors were entered in a drawing to win one of six $25 gift cards from Dick’s Sporting Goods. Kansas State had two gift card winners; each of the other schools had one. ESU’s gift card winner was City Commissioner Jim Kessler.
Patti Tasker of the American Red Cross Central Plains in Wichita plans to come to Emporia to present the trophy to the alumni association.
