Nominations, please
It’s time to select The Gazette’s Citizen of the Year for our annual Progress edition. We’d also like to recognize 10 Who Make a Difference.
Please give us your input. Send us names of people you’d like to nominate and a short sentence or two about how they make a difference or why you think they should be Citizen of the Year. Please include your name and telephone number so we can call you if we need to clarify anything.
Send your nominations by e-mail to newsroom@emporiagazette.com, fax to 342-8108, drop off at 517 Merchant St. or snail mail to P.O. Drawer C, Emporia KS 66801. We’ll start making our decisions on Jan. 11, so don’t delay.
Winemakers here
Members of the Kansas Grape Growers & Winemakers Association will hold their 22nd annual conference beginning with a judging of amateur wine at 7 p.m. today at the Best Western complex.
The conference, with a full schedule of workshops and wine-judgings, has been organized by Terry Turner of Emporia and JoAnn Kuhlmann of Olpe.
Workshops will begin at 8:45 a.m. Saturday in the Kanza Room at the Memorial Union at Emporia State University. Registration will open at 8 a.m., at a cost of $60 for non-members and $50 for members. “We’re limited to 100, and I’m at 82 right now,” Turner said this morning.
Workshop topics include business plans, water resources, marketing, pesticides, winemaking and identifying niche tourists.
