Black cowboys

The Lyon County Historical Society will present the first in a monthly series of programs entitled, “Night at the Museum,” to be held at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of every month at the Lyon County Historical Museum. This Tuesday’s speaker is author and ESU professor Jim Hoy, who will talk about “The Black Cowboys of Lyon County and the Flint Hills.” For more information, call the museum at 340-6310.

Quilt art

The Wichita Art Museum is presenting “Odyssey of a Quilt” by Terry Thompson at 3 p.m. Jan. 13. Thompson will discuss the stories and images of her 40 years of quiltmaking. Along with being a quiltmaker, she is an historian and author of several books. There is no charge, but reservations are required and can be made by calling (316) 268-4917.

The quilt exhibition, “Art of the Needle: Masterpiece Quilts from the Shelburne Museum,” is on view through Jan. 13. For more information, see www.wichitaartmuseum.org.
