Topeka — The Kansas Senate has passed a bill requiring children to attend kindergarten. The bill also lowers the age for children to start school from 7 to 6.
The bill, approved Thursday on a 36-3 vote, exempts children from attending kindergarten on religious grounds or if the parents sign a written objection. The mandate wouldn’t apply to any private school or parents who home school their children.
