Hospital outpatient revenues high again

The trend of increasing outpatient revenues continues at Newman Regional Health, the Newman Board of Trustees learned Wednesday afternoon.

The board met for their monthly meeting Wednesday afternoon. According to the financial summary, outpatient revenues were $230,188 above what was budgeted for January. This stems from a budget of 312 outpatient surgical cases. There were 340 actual cases.

Inpatient revenues continue to be down. The hospital was $94,690 under the budgeted amount. Patient days at Newman were under budget by 119.

“The majority of this unfavorable variance is due to decreased patient days on all of the nursing units except Inpatient Rehab,” the financial summary stated.

However, these numbers are offset by an operating loss of $39,473. The hospital budgeted to lose $666,781.

In other business, architect Trevor Lewis said the renovation of the west wing of the third floor is completed. This opened up 10 additional private rooms. Demolition has started on the north side of the third floor for a remodel.

I've never understood how any business can run at a loss like that and stay open. Of course they don't have much inpatient income. They're just a transfer station anymore. I won't go there. I take the 45 minute drive to Burlington where I get actual caring treatment.

We heard of a disabled person being verbally abuse there. It was reported and the hospital-sided with staff. Damn-I'd hate to be disabled in this town.I have had my medical information leaked. No thanks Newmans. The only thing I could add is that all staff shoud be drug tested. The women in Admissions should be reminded of HIPPA Laws.
Newmans should only get paid when they help to heal people.
People should blog about Newmans-they need a watchdog.

I had a few dealings with Newmans in the last few months. It's all about money they could care less about their patients. And whats with them using so many student nurses instead of REAL nurses? As much as they charge for their sh** care they should provide professional staff! They could care less about healing people all they care about is the $$$ signs.

when one of my kids were little, she fell and the hospital couldnt find anything wrong, but i took her out of town a few days later and she was treated for a seperated shoulder. well worth the trip out of town, and the dr here was treating the kid like she was full of make believe, now we go out of town for anything bigger than a scratch.
