Board unanimously votes to re-hire

Administrators have been rehired for the coming year in the Emporia school district.

The Emporia Board of Education voted 6-0 to approve the motion at a meeting Wednesday evening in the Mary Herbert Learning Center. Homer Garza was absent from the meeting.

The board also approved seven additional classes to be added to the district’s list of fine arts credit courses.

Assistant Superintendent George Abel, who is in charge of learning and curriculum, told the board that the instructional council had recommended adding four courses from the Technical Education Department and three from the Language Arts Department at Emporia High School.

The technical courses added are: CADD, 3D animation, video broadcasting I and broadcasting II. The language courses added are: newspaper staff, yearbook staff, and photojournalism and ad design.

The board also approved recommendations from the instructional council for additional accelerated or honors courses.

The additions are microbiology/cell biology and genetics.

The two courses will be included in the list of courses that receive weighted grades factors.

The board also approved program-based budgeting committee members for 2008.
