Interstate Bakeries posts loss

Wednesday, February 27, 2008

Interstate Bakeries Corp., maker of Hostess Twinkies and Wonder Bread, reported a larger monthly loss today, driven by declining sales.

In a securities filing, the Kansas City company that owns Emporia's Dolly Madison plant said it lost $20.1 million on sales of $187.4 million in the four weeks ending Jan. 12. During the previous month, the company lost $18.9 million on sales of $197.5 million. The January sales total is the lowest since the company filed for bankruptcy in September 2004.

The costs of goods sold and other operating expenses during the period decreased 2.7 percent from the previous month to $197.8 million.

booker5m, I read the same thing on the Yahoo Finance boards. Shocking.....but I wonder if IBCIQ (their stock symbol) has a stock take-over on their hands? Or something similar?

Doesn't say much about management, huh?

Does anyone know what the near future holds for our plant here in Emporia? We do not need another big layoff! I hope they can figure something out to keep this plant open.
