Tuesday
• The Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a design workshop at 5 p.m. at White Auditorium. Attendees can learn about permits, codes and financial incentives available for downtown revitalization programs.
• The Flint Hills Community Health Center Board of Trustees will meet for their monthly meeting at noon in the Jones Conference Center of the health center. Among the items on the agenda are a discussion about a grant and a recruitment update.
• The ESU Wind Ensemble will perform a concert at Albert Taylor Hall. Opening the show at 7:30 p.m. will be the Badger Creek Brass Ensemble, which includes faculty from various universities around the state.
Wednesday
• The Lyon County Commission will hold its weekly study session at 8 a.m. in the county commission chambers of the Lyon County Courthouse.
• The Emporia City Commission will hold its biweekly work session at 10 a.m. in the city conference room at the Civic Auditorium.
• The Newman Regional Health Board of Directors will meet for their monthly meeting in the conference room on the second floor of Newman Regional Health. The board will go into executive session following opening around 12:30. They will re-convene in open session following executive.
• The Friends of the Community Health Center, a new organization designed to assist the Flint Hills Community Health Center, will hold its first meeting starting at 5:30 p.m. in the Jones Conference Room of the health center. There will be a short business meeting to elect officers.
• The Neosho Headwaters/John Redmond Reservoir Watershed Restoration & Protection Strategy (WRAPS) will have a stakeholder meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Anderson Building at the Lyon County Fairgrounds. RSVPs need to be made by Tuesday to Deb Schopper at the Lyon County Conservation District at 343-2813, Ext. 140.
Thursday
• Lyon County commissioners will hold their weekly action meeting at 8 a.m. in the county commission chambers of the Lyon County Courthouse.
• Emporia State Multicultural Programs and the Black Student Union will commemorate Black History Month with “Ask a Black Dude” from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Kanza Room at the Memorial Union.
• Turning Point Learning Center will hold an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kansas Avenue Building, 315 S. Market St. Attendees can learn more about the K-8 charter school.
Friday
• World music stars Gaelic Storm bring their Celtic sound to Albert Taylor Hall at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $22 and can be purchased at the Emporia Arts Council or at the Sweet Granada.
• Bruff’s Bar and Grill will hold a St. Patrick’s Day auction. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the auction begins at 7 p.m. Proceeds raised will go toward buying first bikes for children who have never owned one.
Saturday
• Emporia State’s women’s and men’s basketball teams take on Southwest Baptist University at White Auditorium. The women’s game begins at 1:30 p.m., followed by the men at 3:30.
• Emporia Lions Club Biscuit & Gravy Breakfast, 7:30 a.m. at the Emporia Senior Center. For a $5 donation, attendees get a breakfast consisting of homemade biscuits with sausage gravy, link sausage, a fruit cup and juice, milk or coffee.
