Has lead in play
Rebecca Montgomery, daughter of Mike and Shelly Montgomery of Emporia, took a leading role in the recent production of Karel Capek’s play “R.U.R.” at Oklahoma Christian University in Oklahoma City.
Montgomery had the lead role of Helena Glory in the play.
Scholarship
Kristen Garcia of Emporia was one several finalists chosen to receive a 2008 Kansas State University Civic Leadership scholarship for $500. She is a graduate of Emporia High School. She is the daughter of Charles and Nancy Garcia of Emporia and sister of Elizabeth and Nick Garcia.
Forensics
The Emporia High School forensics team has begun its spring season with success at several local tournaments. At the Northern Heights invitational forensics tournament, McKenna LeClear was first in informative speech, Zach Windsor placed second in interpretation of prose. Other medalists included Felicity Schultz in humorous solo acting, Zach Windsor and McKenna LeClear in extemporaneous speaking, and Celia Schinkel and Amanda Sorsen in duet acting.
At Topeka High School, Drew Bonnet was second in student congress, Alex Bonnet was third in student senate, and Liliana Elias was third, Jake Schaefer sixth in novice congress.
At Bishop Carroll, Sady Strong was third in oration, Jake Schaefer was sixth in informative speech.
At the Marion High School invitational forensics tournament Drew Bonnet placed first in extemporaneous speaking and Sady Strong was second in original oration. Other medalists included Hector Urbina in oral interpretation of poetry and Sonia Lara and Liliana Elias in improvised duet acting.
At Washburn Rural, Ariana Nasrazadani and Drew Bonnet took third, Kathryn Scherich was fourth in student congress. Liliana Elias and Anita Muniz placed 6th in public forum debate.
At the McPherson Invitational Forensics Tournament, Alex Bonnet was first in extemporaneous speaking and fifth in oration, McKenna LeClear took second in interpretation of prose.
