Sertoma
The Sertoma Club of Emporia will present the Service to Mankind award to Harry Groh on Wednesday during the 6:30 p.m. dinner at the American Legion. Kansas District Governor Terry Cuthbertson will attend. On March 26, also at the American Legion, Aaron Bura will be recognized as this year’s recipient of the Sertoman-of-the-Year Award. These awards are the highest given by the club.
Kiwanis
The Kiwanis Club is preparing for their annual Pancake Day to be held from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 8 in the Anderson Building on the Lyon County fairgrounds. Tickets for adults are $5 at the door or may be purchased in advance from any member for $4. Tickets for children ages 4-8 are $4 at the door; those three and younger are free of charge. Advance tickets are also available at The Shopper through March 7. The cost pays for all the pancakes one can eat, a serving of sausage and choice of coffee or milk with free refills. Additional sausage patties or milk are 50 cents a serving.
President-elect Barbara Blaufuss said that this year the Kiwanis Club will have served pancakes and donated all of the proceeds to the community for 60 years. Proceeds will be the basis for the service budget.
The Emporia Kiwanis Club’s main focus is on young children and families.
