Biscuits & gravy

An “all you can eat” Biscuits and Gravy Breakfast will be held from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Messiah Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 1101 Neosho St. Biscuits and gravy, pancakes, sausage, coffee, juice and milk will be served . The cost for adults is $4; $2 for children under 12. Proceeds from the breakfast will go to support the mission projects of the Lutheran Laymen’s League.

Bierocks

The Youth Group of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will have their homemade bierock sale from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the Parish Hall, 106 Exchange St. The cost is $3 each or 10 for $25. There also will be a garage sale, open at 8 a.m.

Dinner for Bolivian flood victims

The ESU Spanish Club and ESU Honors Program will be hosts for a benefit dinner with all proceeds going to flood victims in Bolivia. The dinner, with live music, will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Emporia Recreation Center. There also will be a free-will donation raffle and bake sale. Tickets for the dinner are $5 and can be purchased at esu.spanishclub@yahoo.com.

Sunday dinner

The Reading United Methodist Women will serve a homecooked dinner at noon Sunday at the United Methodist Church. The menu features turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, cake and ice cream. The cost is $6 for each person.

And don’t miss chili next week

A choice of chili or vegetable beef soup will be the options at the annual First Friends Chili Supper on Feb. 28.

Serving will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. in the church basement, Sixth Avenue and Sylvan Street.

Each meal includes a bowl of chili or soup, relish, beverage and dessert. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children.

A country store with home-made items will be open during the meal, and cookbooks with recipes contributed by members also will be offered for sale.
