Wednesday, February 20, 2008

The Madison girls held off a late Hartford rally to take a 50-47 victory Tuesday in the first round of 1A Regionals at Madison.

The Lady Bulldogs held a slim 23-21 lead at halftime before going on a 17-10 run in the third quarter to go up 40-31. Morgan Stout and Shelby Buster combined for 13 of their team’s 17 points during the 8-minute stretch.

Hartford wouldn’t go away, though. The Lady Jaguars cut the deficit to 46-43 on a Kellie Farr basket with 1:11 left, but Hartford couldn’t get any closer.

Tera Titus, Stout and Buster all had free throws in the last 45 seconds to help clinch the win.

Buster and Stout combined for nearly two-thirds of Madison’s scoring, as Buster had 18 points and Stout added 15.

Titus contributed eight points, with six of those coming in the second half.
