Stueve wins MIAA athlete of the week
For the second straight week, Emporia State’s Michelle Stueve was named the MIAA’s player of the week.
The 6-foot-2 senior averaged 24.5 points, 10 rebounds and 2.5 steals last week in the Lady Hornets’ two victories over Missouri Southern and Central Missouri.
Stueve had 22 points on Wednesday against Southern before posting 27 points and 16 rebounds on Saturday against Central.
It is the fourth time this year Stueve has been selected as athlete of the week and the 12th time in her career that she has earned the honor.
A pair of ESU women tracksters also were named MIAA athletes of the week on Monday.
Jonel Rossbach took the women’s track honor after breaking the school record in the 5,000-meter run by more than 20 seconds on Friday at the Iowa State Open in Ames, Iowa.
Rossbach now has won three of the six track athlete of the week honors given out by the conference this indoor season.
The Hornets’ Jennifer Robinson won women’s field athlete of the week after provisionally qualifying for nationals in two events (long jump, high jump) at the Missouri Southern Invitational last weekend.
Robinson placed third in the long jump and fifth in the high jump.
