Jumpers in the Polar Bear Plunge this year raised a spectacular amount of money for local Special Olympics events in Emporia.
Jo Bailey, contact for this year’s Plunge, said that 115 jumpers raised more than $25,000. Last year’s jump, the first event of its kind here, drew 73 plungers.
“Last year we were a little over $12,000, so we more than doubled it,” Bailey said.
Prizes awarded went to: Marjean Anderson, most money raised, individual; Cold and Bold team from Walburn’s, most money raised, team; Scott Hayes, most enthusiastic plunger; Ryan Fritz, wimpiest plunger; Gary Colglazier, best individual costume; and The Bobbers, best team costume.
