Burlingame scores 52-44 upset victory over Marais des Cygnes Valley

Burlingame grabbed an early lead and hung on from there, taking a 52-44 upset victory over Marais des Cygnes Valley on Friday in Burlingame.
“We’re playing with some good momentum,” Burlingame coach Creighton Winters said. “We’re shooting the ball a lot better, and tonight, we were really unselfish.”
The Bearcats took a 21-14 lead into halftime and didn’t let the Trojans back in it after that.
Burlingame outscored MdCV 18-14 in the final quarter to preserve its advantage.
Chris Patterson led the Bearcats with a game-high 22 points.
“He’s stepping up even more than he was earlier in the year,” Winters said.
Joel Bevitt added nine for Burlingame.
MdCV was paced by Dennis Becker’s 15 points. Brandon Litch was the only other player in double figures with 11 points.

Lebo 55, So. Coffey County 44
Cameron Smith’s game-high 20 points helped lead Lebo to a 55-44 victory over Southern Coffey County.
The Wolves took a 13-9 lead after the first quarter and extended that advantage to 30-19 at the break.
SCC outscored Lebo 16-13 in the fourth quarter, but it wouldn’t be enough to overcome a 14-point deficit.
Adam Laflin added 14 points before fouling out, while Blake Jones had 12. Calvin Perry contributed nine points, including both of the Wolves’ 3-pointers.
John Kraft paced SCC with 11 points.

Lyndon 54, Hartford 49
Lyndon went 10-for-12 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to secure a 54-49 victory over Hartford.
The Tigers started the game on an 11-6 run and, despite getting outscored 16-13 in the third quarter, still led 37-35 entering the final frame.
It was then that Lyndon pulled away with free throws, making eight of them in the final 1:08. Keene Niemack was a perfect 4-of-4 from the line in the final quarter, while Derek Banzhaf and Dylan Filburn both went 2-for-2.
Banzhaf led Lyndon with 18 points, with 13 of those coming in the second half. Niemack added 10.
Taylor Heckathorn was Hartford’s high scorer with 16 points, while Justin Farr contributed 14 and Adam Ewy had 13.

Madison 59, Hamilton 22
Madison dominated the third quarter to run away from Hamilton in a 59-22 victory.
The Bulldogs outscored the Tigers 24-1 in the third period, turning a 29-16 lead into a 53-17 advantage.
Madison coach Alan Brown said much of the credit went to Sid Childers, who was able to hold down Hamilton’s Jeff Smith defensively after a switch was made at halftime.
“After we did that, the rest of our players took over,” Brown said. “We cranked up the defense and put it to them.”
Eric Porter led all scorers with 23 points, while Caleb Rathke added nine.
Smith paced Hamilton with 14 points.
The game matched up some former teammates, as Madison and Hamilton combined their athletes during this football season.
Madison opens Regional play with a 7 p.m. home game Monday against Southern Coffey County.

No. Heights 74, Herington 52
Northern Heights’ Haydon Parks dominated the inside, scoring 33 points as the Wildcats took down Herington, 74-52.
Parks’ best production came in the third quarter, as he scored 17 of his team’s 25 points in that frame.
The Wildcats’ posted a 25-14 run after halftime to push their lead all the way up to 58-40.
“Haydon was taking the ball to the rim well,” Heights coach Lanny Massey said. “We were getting him the ball in good position.
“We worked on our offensive execution in practice, and I thought we executed very well. Haydon was a major recipient.”
Parks put up his 33 points on 14-for-21 shooting. He also made all five of his free-throw attempts.
David Hanks added nine, while Michael Glass had eight.
Ten players scored in all for the Wildcats, who outscored the Railers in each quarter.
“We put on a lot of defensive pressure,” Massey said, “and we forced them to play our game.”

Grant Vogt had more than half of his team’s scoring output, posting a game-high 27 points as Flinthills held on for a 50-46 victory over West Elk.
The Mustangs used a 16-6 second-quarter run to take a 30-21 lead before doing just enough to stay ahead.
Flinthills was outscored in both of the final two quarters but still managed to cling to its advantage.
Vogt finished 8-of-13 from the floor and added seven rebounds. Tyler Wilson contributed eight points and seven rebounds for the Mustangs.
