Wireless at the library
Elmendaro Township Library at Hartford now provides wireless Internet access as a service to patrons. According to a news release, the wireless connection is available from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. to those who have a notebook/laptop or other wireless device with wireless networking.
There are some disclaimers. Users may encounter “dead” spots where the wireless reception is limited. The library does not guarantee that patrons will be able to make a wireless connection. The wireless connection is unfiltered; a patron choosing to use this service also agrees to abide by the library’s Internet Code of Ethics (available at the library). The wireless connection is not secure; information sent to and from a patron’s device may be captured by anyone else with a wireless device and the appropriate software. The library assumes no responsibility for the safety of patron equipment or files resulting from connection to the library’s wireless access.
Because of changes in policy with the added service, those using the patron computers need to sign a new user release and indemnity document before using. Those 17 or younger must have a parent or guardian sign the document. New forms must be completed at the library. After March 1, earlier forms will not be recognized.
