Reception for Schwenn
Emporia State University will honor the service of a departing administrator at a reception next week. The reception for John Schwenn and his wife, Judy, will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday at the Sauder Alumni Center, 1500 Highland St.
Schwenn, vice president for academic affairs at ESU since 1997, will become the president of Dalton State College, Dalton, Ga., on March 1.
Schwenn has been associated with ESU since 1989, when he was hired as an associate professor and associate chair of the Division of Psychology and Special Education in The Teachers College.
In 2006, Schwenn served as Emporia State’s interim president for five months. Dr. Michael R. Lane succeeded Schwenn as ESU’s 15th president in November 2006.
The Schwenns have three grown children and two grandchildren. Judy Schwenn teaches ninth and tenth grade English at Emporia High School, and will stay in Emporia through the end of the school year.
Dinner and auction
The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation will host a benefit auction and dinner Saturday at the Best Western, 3021 W. Highway 50.
Social hour will start at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. The auction will start at 8 p.m. Proceeds benefit elk and other wildlife.
