Lyon County commissioners could start 2009’s budget process as early as the end of March this year.
Dan Slater, county controller, said the budgeting process for Lyon County will start earlier this year than it has in the past.
Slater also discussed the county’s first financial report for 2008. The financial report was given during Thursday’s Lyon County Commission meeting. Slater said the first month of the year is hard to predict because a lot of expenditures occur in the month.
“Overall, the month looked really good,” Slater said.
Revenue numbers for January were up, as were interest rates. Slater said one thing that hurt the county revenue wise was a lot of partial payments of taxes.
“We had more half payments than full payments,” Slater said, adding that partial payments don’t give the county the opportunity to let the funds draw interest in the bank.
Overtime also was up in the month of January, but that’s to be expected with a substantial amount of snow and ice during the month that taxes the resources from Road & Bridge and law enforcement, Slater said.

F Commissioners briefly discussed an application for a conditional use permit to allow a mobile home in an agriculture district by P.D. Miller. The item was tabled until next week for a clean copy of the resolution.
F Commissioners approved a $725 expenditure for blinds in the Lyon County Extension Office. The office also needs signs for the building. Commissioner Bob Davis said he would donate a stone for the Extension Office. The stone can then be engraved. Davis owns Pyramid Stone. The engraving cost will be up to the Extension Office but Davis suggested the agency raise funds to pay for the engraving.
