Each Friday, The Gazette salutes those who make Emporia and the surrounding area a better place to live and work. Give these folks a pat on the back ...

EMPORIA STATE UNIVERSITY basketball player Michelle Stueve, who was named the all-time leading scorer for the MIAA with 2,161 points. She broke Becky Reichard’s mark of 2,159 points.

- Edd Noonan, who signed a letter of intent to play football for Emporia State University. Noonan was an All-State running back for Emporia High School.

- Olpe State Bank, which received a 5-star rating from an independent bank rating and research firm. This is the 74th consecutive year the bank a top rating.

- Caitlin McGuire and Aaron Clark, who were named Emporia High’s Winter Sports King and Queen, and Danielle Dreier and Haydon Parks, who were crowned king and queen at Northern Heights High School.

- Westar Energy, which contributed $15,000 to the Emporia Chamber of Commerce’s Building Futures Blueprint for Growth campaign.

How about a pat on the back to the faculty and students at Olpe for being recognized by U.S. News and World Report for their academic accomplishments.
