The Job/Community Fair scheduled for Saturday at Flint Hills Technical College still has openings for employers seeking employees, the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce announced.
It had been announced late last week that the job fair was full, but more classrooms have been opened up for booths, said Lori Scott Dreiling, one of the coordinators for the fair.
The fair will run from 1 to 4 p.m. at the college, 3301 W. 18th Ave. The fair, which is being held in response to Tyson Fresh Meats’ layoff of more than 1,500 employees, will consist of businesses seeking employees and social service and community agencies offering information on support services for workers who have lost their jobs.
Dreiling said this morning there are 82 booths taken so far. She said more space is available.
“It’ll be packed,” Dreiling said. “I can squeeze them in. I’m not going to turn anybody away, whether it be an employer or somebody looking for a job.”
Dreiling said the response to the job fair has been good. Employers will be present from Emporia, Wichita, Topeka, Oklahoma and Iowa.
“There’s no shortage of jobs out there,” she said. “It might not be in this immediate Emporia area but there are a lot of things available.”
A press release from the chamber of commerce said that Emporia and Emporia area employers will be located in the college’s Conference Center, outside employers will be in the hallways and social service agencies will be located in the commons area. Classrooms also have been opened up to handle more booths.
Employers are to check in starting at 11:45 a.m. Saturday. For information on booths, call the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce at 342-1600.
