Birthday reception
Cleo Jacob is celebrating his 90th birthday anniversary today and his family will have a reception for him from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at HIS Place at the First Baptist Church, 807 Constitution St. The family requests no gifts.

Capitol Federal wins award
At 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, the Emporia Main Street Design Committee will present Capitol Federal Savings with the Outstanding Design Award. The business is receiving this award for excellence in preservation and maintenance of its building.
Design Committee members will present the award at the bank, 602 Commercial St.
