ESU softball loses twice

The No. 11 Emporia State softball team dropped to 1-3 after losing a pair of games Friday in the Abilene Christian Tournament.
The Hornets fell 4-3 in 8 innings to Northeastern State in the first game and 2-0 to Southeastern Oklahoma State in Game Two.
In Game One, ESU rallied for two runs in the seventh to tie it, then took the lead in the top of the eighth on a run-scoring sacrifice from freshman Abby Smith.
Northeastern answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame, getting two consecutive bases-loaded singles off ESU’s Megan Dennis.
Miranda Campbell paced the ESU offense with a triple, run scored and RBI.
The Hornets couldn’t produce any scoring in Game Two, mustering just five hits.
Southeastern Oklahoma plated two runs in the first off ESU starter Samantha Sheeley and held on from there. SOSU had just two hits overall and had no hits after the third inning.
ESU faces Cameron at 10 a.m. today in its final game of the tournament.
