THE TEACHERS COLLEGE at Emporia State University, which received a Best Practice award from the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. The award recognized outstanding collaboration between teacher-education programs and the community.
- George Abel, who received the 2007 Executive Directors’ Outstanding Service Award from the Kansas Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. He received the award for his professional contributions to curriculum development in Kansas.
- Jane Koger, Pat Sauble, Brent Konen and Neosho Valley Chapter 238 of Quail Unlimited, who earned 2007 Conservation Program Awards from the National Wildlife Federation.
- Dr. John Kosko and his daughter Beth, who were named Emporia’s biggest losers by Walburn’s gym. They lost a combined 49 pounds and 6.5 percent of their body fat during a contest sponsored by Walburn’s and Subway restaurants.
- The Hopkins Foundation, which gave $31,000 to Camp Alexander. The money will be used to fund leadership, teamwork and outdoor education activities for the children of Emporia and surrounding communities.
F Emporia native Joe Bob Clements, who is expected to be announced as a defensive assistant coach at the University of Kansas.
