Open house at Newman
Newman Regional Health Cardiopulmonary Services has a lot to celebrate next week — February is American Heart Month and the department is in its 25th year. Cardiopulmonary Services will have an open house Monday from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m.
Cardiovascular diseases are the No. 1 killer in the United States, said Karen Schell, director of Cardiopulmonary Services.
The Cardiac Rehabilitation unit, one of four programs in the state accredited by the American Association of Cardiovascular Pulmonary Rehabilitation, has about 50 patients now, Schell said. The unit offers fitness programs and classes on medication, diet and stress management.
GOP caucus Saturday
Voters who were registered as Republicans as of Jan. 25 will be eligible to vote in the Lyon County Republican Caucus, beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Anderson Building at the Lyon County Fairgrounds.
The doors will open that day at 8 a.m. to allow voters to get checked in.
Voters must bring picture identification before they can be stamped as checked-in and eligible to participate in the caucus.
At 10 a.m., the doors will be closed to the public, and representatives of presidential candidates will speak before the vote. Speakers will be timed to ensure that each gets the same amount of time, and no one will allowed to speak negatively about a candidate, she said.
Voting will be done with paper ballots in voting booths.
