Americus sets animal tag record

Friday, February 8, 2008

AMERICUS — There are more animals in Americus with tags this year than ever before — and it’s only February.

Marcia Johnson, of the city of Americus, said the city sold more animal tags in January than it did the entire year of 2007. Johnson said the city so far has sold 88 tags.

“That’s a record number for us,” she said.

Animal tags are still available in Americus.

“We still encourage people to get them,” Johnson said. “If the dogs get out we can get them home. When you find a dog running at large it’s annoying not knowing who it belongs to and not being able to get them home.”

Animal tags are $1.50 for spayed/neutered animals and $2.50 for all other animals. Proof of rabies vaccination is required. The price goes up 50 cents per month after Jan. 31.
