Fish on Friday
The Didde Catholic Campus Center, 1415 Merchant St., will have a Fish Fry from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. The cost for a fish dinner is $6; shrimp creole dinner, $6; fish and shrimp dinner, $8. Dinner includes hushpuppies, potato salad, coleslaw, green beans, bread, dessert and beverage. The cost is $5 for students with identification. A child’s dinner of cheese pizza, fish dinner or shrimp dinner is $3 (under 10 years). Information, 343-6765 or see www.emporia.edu/dccc. Pancakes on Saturday
Boy Scouts will serve pancakes from 6 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, 202 E. 12th Ave. during Troop 157’s annual event.
All-you-can-eat pancakes with coffee and milk cost $4. Sausage can be added for 25 cents each or three pieces for 50 cents. Extra milk costs 50 cents.
The Scouts will offer half-price tickets for the whole family to any Tyson worker who purchases tickets at the door and shows a payroll stub.
And biscuits and gravy
Biscuits and gravy will be on the menu from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Americus Masonic Lodge, on the northwest corner of Main and Broadway. For information, Claude Roswurm (620) 443-5570.
Garage sale next week
The First United Methodist Church, 823 Merchant St., is having a “huge garage sale” of a variety of items, some antique, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Proceeds will benefit local regional missions.
Play Scrabble to benefit literacy
The Emporia Literacy Program is conducting the fourth annual “Scrabble Scramble” on Feb. 16 at the Flinthills Mall. Registration is at 1 p.m.; games will begin at 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. Participants may play as many games as they like. The entry fee is $5 each game on the days of the event or $10 in advance for all three games.
To register in advance, participants can pick up forms at the Emporia Public Library, Emporia Recreation Center, Information Booth in the ESU Student Union or the Adult Education Center, 620 Constitution St. A registration form can be printed at emporia.edu/biosci/literacy.
