A detour route for a bridge over the Kansas Turnpike is among several items on this week’s Lyon County Commission agenda.
Commissioners will meet at 8 a.m. Wednesday in commission chambers in the Lyon County Courthouse. County Engineer Chip Woods will bring several items before commissioners, including a detour route when construction starts on 18th Avenue for the bridge over the Kansas Turnpike.
The bid tentatively is scheduled to be let in December with construction scheduled for next spring, Woods said.
Woods said he expects the “official” detour will be on Highway 50.
“But realistically I expect a lot of traffic heading for the north part of Emporia will use Road 190 between Americus Road and Graphic Arts Road,” Woods said. “The road has developed some minor rutting and should get a leveling course this summer to prepare for closing 18th street.”
Woods said he will be asking commissioners for direction to approve the work so it can be scheduled this summer.
Woods will discuss the item with commissioners between 9 and 9:30 a.m.
Other items on Wednesday’s agenda:
• Discuss having BG Consultants perform the architectural and engineering services for ADA restrooms at the Health Department and the Highway Department for a total of $37,310 for the design services and a maximum of $10,400 for the construction administration services.
• Review letter from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment regarding Olpe Wastewater Treatment Facility.
• Review letter from KDHE regarding County Park Mobile Home Court Wastewater Treatment Facility.
• Discuss changing commission districts to even out population.
• Review 2008 legislative updates.
