Two accidents over the weekend resulted in the deaths of three people and injuries to four others.
A 21-year-old Lindsborg woman died Sunday afternoon when the 1996 Ford Aspire she was driving collided head-on with a small SUV about eight miles west of Emporia on Highway 50.
Joslyn L. Kejr, 21, of Lindsborg apparently was driving east when she attempted to pass another vehicle and struck a 2003 Toyota RAV4 head-on. The driver of the SUV, Gary Crouse, 57, of Galva, and a passenger, Janet Crouse, 52, of Galva, were taken to Newman Regional Health for treatment of injuries.
All three were wearing safety restraints.
The accident occurred at about 4:30 p.m.
Two men were killed and a woman was seriously injured Friday night in an accident about three miles southeast of Council Grove on the Dunlap Road.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Jeremy DeWayne Evans, 23, of Council Grove and Branden Lee Bowman, 25, of Topeka died in the one-vehicle accident.
Rachel Harden, 30, of Council Grove was life-flighted from the scene and taken to St. Francis Health Center in Topeka.
Another passenger in the vehicle, Adam Charles Sommer, 25, of Council Grove, was taken to Morris County Hospital with possible injuries.
The KHP report said that Evans failed to negotiate a curve on the roadway. The 2001 Pontiac Montana he was driving went into the ditch, where it continued for about 100 yards.
As Evans attempted to re-enter the roadway, he overcorrected and returned to the ditch, where the vehicle rolled one and three-fourths times, coming to rest on the driver's side.
The report said that Evans, Bowman, and Sommer were not wearing seat belts. It is not known whether Harden was belted in.
