Long-time banker Jennell Tebbetts began work Dec. 26 as regional sales manager for the three CoreFirst banks in Emporia.
Tebbetts had allowed herself a couple of weeks of leisure between jobs, and found that after Christmas, the household chores were finished and leisure wasn’t all she’d thought it would be.
“I just thought I might as well go to work,” Tebbetts said. So she went in a few days early.
The new job fulfills a lifetime dream for Tebbetts, who came to Emporia with her husband, Dan, in 1970 to attend Kansas State Teachers College.
She has spent most of her career in banking, with 11 years at Emporia State Bank before moving for three years to the Lyon County Appraiser’s office, where she was personal property manager. Tebbetts said the latter experience convinced her she belonged in banking, and she went to work at Bank IV, which later became Bank of America. At B of A, she was community bank executive, as well as manager of the bank’s branch on Industrial Road.
Tebbetts now has completed initial training at CoreFirst, and she is pleased with what she learned.
“I have been amazingly surprised and impressed, not only what they do for their customers, but their employees,” she said.
Tebbetts has been on the board of directors for the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce, and has served as a Chamber Ambassador.
She and Dan Tebbetts are the parents of two children and grandparents of three. They also have been foster parents for numerous other children, who still keep in touch.
“We’re a mixed bag of family,” she said. “We have the most wonderful Thanksgivings and Christmas that you would ever know.”
