Window contest winners announced

Tuesday, December 30, 2008

Emporia Main Street recently wrapped up the annual holiday window display contest, sponsored by the Promotion Committee.

More than 16 Main Street members participated in the contest, using their creativity and imagination to construct festive holiday displays. Window displays were up for two awards, “Judges’ Choice” determined by KVOE’s Ron Thomas and Chuck Samples and “People’s Choice” determined by customers leaving money in each business’s jar. The Judges’ Choice awards were: First ~ Flint Hills Music, Second ~ Madelynn’s, and Third ~ Designs by Sharon. The People’s Choice award was decided by a public penny war, with all proceeds donated to the United Way Agencies. Results for the People’s Choice award follow: First ~ Town Crier Bookstore, Second ~ Flint Hills Music, and Third ~ Madelynn’s. Over $325 was collected and will be donated to the United Way of the Flint Hills. Thank you to all Main Street businesses that participated in the 2008 Window Display Contest: 96.1 The Wave, AKA The Sports Fan, Bath Expressions by Burnap Bros., Brown’s Shoe Fit, Designs by Sharon, Emporia Chamber of Commerce, Emporia Farmers’ Market, Flint Hills Music, Forget Me Not Productions, Jock’s Nitch Sporting Goods, Madelynn’s, Nikki B’s, Stanley Jewelry, Sweet Granada, The Villager, and Town Crier Bookstore. Emporia Main Street also wishes to thank everyone who voted for their favorite window display, as every penny will help the United Way of the Flint Hills local agencies and programs.
