Fuel surcharge discontinued
As per Ordinance 08-37, which established the fuel surcharge for solid waste, the City of Emporia will discontinue charging a fuel surcharge during the next quarter since the average fuel price has dropped below $3.50, stated the press release. The city established the fuel surcharge to offset the increased expenditures incurred with the higher fuel prices in earlier 2008. The city will continue to monitor fuel prices and re-instate the fuel charge if necessary.
Scholarships received
Emporia State University students John D. Barker and Scott E. Jones, both of Emporia, have received $1,000 scholarships from the Kansas Geological Foundation.
