Manor honors staff

Kathy Cisneros is Emporia Presbyterian Manor’s 2008 employee of the year.

In a news release, Roger Closson, executive director, said that Cisneros, a licensed practical nurse, has been at the manor since 1991. She is a graduate of Reading High School and the Flint Hills Technical College.

The honor of employee of the year is open to any staff member who has been an employee of the month, an honor that Cisneros received in May 1993 and November 2004.

Other staff members honored for longevity of service were Karen Rogers, licensed practical nurse, and Diane Schwindt, cook, 15 years; Kate Rhoads, licensed practical nurse and Judi Jones, home health aide, and Glenda McDaniels, activity assistant, and Terry Miller, accounting assistant, 10 years; Tatyana Sokolova, five years.

Paula Hedberg, registered nurse; Sharon Schmidt, housekeeper; and Ana Martinez, dietary aide, were recognized for outstanding customer service. Kathy Salts was named outstanding volunteer and Janece Bacon is the outstanding service provider.

Earn certification

Five pharmacy technicians in Newman Regional Health’s pharmacy recently were awarded Certified Pharmacy Technician designations from the Institute for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians, according to an announcement from Nancy LeClear, Newman’s marketing and education director.

The technicians are Ruth Brooks, Susan Simpson, Marsha Lopez, Dave Gentry, and Sherry Shipley.

The sixth pharmacy employee, Alice Drier, received her pharmacy technician certification in 2001 from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.

“This is a significant accomplishment that requires a substantial amount of preparation and passing a national exam,” LeClear said. “... National certification through this exam indicates pharmacy technicians are proficient in the knowledge and skills needed to assist pharmacists to safely, accurately and efficiently prepare and dispense prescriptions.”

The technicians work under the direction of Newman’s four registered pharmacists.
