LeRoy

The Coffey County Republican reported that Maureen Eggleston was appointed to the LeRoy City Council on a 4-0 vote. Eggleston fills the seat vacated by Shane Beard.

Burlington

The Coffey County Republican reported that the Coffey County Commissioners purchased two new motor graders. The bid was for two 2009 John Deere 670d motor graders at the best bid. The bid was awarded to Murphy Tractors for $269,466. The bid reflects a trade-in value of $34,000 for a 1991 John Deere 770BH motor grader and 1988 John Deere 770B motor grader.

Burlington

The Coffey County Republican reported that the Burlington City Council voted to increase residential trash rates from $10.53 to $11.22 per month. The rates will be reflected in the January bills.

Hartford

The Coffey County Republican reported that the Hartford City Council voted to raise water rates at its last meeting. The rates will go up 23 cents per 1,000 gallons — a price passed on because of an increase by the City of Emporia, which supplies water to the City of Hartford.
