Out of hospital
Alejandro Lopez of Emporia was released from Newman Regional Health after being treated for injuries sustained in a fire that destroyed his apartment at 917 1/2 Mechanic St. on Monday morning.
Lopez was the occupant of the home and was treated and released in stable condition from Newman Regional Health, a spokesperson for the hospital said this morning. The fire, which was called in around 7 a.m. Monday, was caused by an overloaded extension cord, Bill West, captain at the Emporia Fire Department, said this morning.
West said when fire crews arrived Monday, heavy flames were showing.
“The occupant had self-evacuated the residence prior to the fire department arrival,” West said. “Smoke inhalation and minor burns were sustained by the occupant. ...”
