To lead Senate panel
State Sen. Jim Barnett of Emporia will serve another term as chairman of the Senate Public Health and Welfare Committee. The Senate’s Organization, Calendar and Rules Committee made the decision earlier this month in a meeting in Topeka.
Senate President Steve Morris, also the head of the rules committee, said in a news release, “We are very fortunate to have an individual with Jim Barnett’s credentials to lead this very important committee. His knowledge and expertise as a practicing physician, combined with his legislative experience, uniquely qualify him for this position.”
Agent completes
university
Art Palafax, an agent for Farmers Insurance Group, has completed the insurance agent career accelerator course at the University of Farmers in Agoura Hills, Calif.
Annette Thompson, Farmers vice president, said in a news release that the university offers year-round training to Farmers’ 14,000 agents and their staffs, 500 district managers and 10,000 claims staff.
The course Palafax completed is designed to help agents learn best-practice methods in regard to staffing, business management, marketing and sales.
Seasonal service added
T&K Mowing of Emporia is responding to the season, adding snow-removal services to its business.
The company, owned by Terry and Karla Textor, recently purchased a snow blade to accommodate the needs of customers during the winter.

Noose makes changes
Owners of the Noose have changed the business’ hours. The opening time on Saturdays and Sundays is now 11 a.m.
In addition, a news release said, the Noose has discontinued free music on Saturday nights.
