Lyon County commissioners approved the purchase of a new heating/air condition unit for a county-owned building used by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office during Thursday’s commission meeting.
On Wednesday, Mark McKenna, of facilities management, said the building’s air conditioning wasn’t working and the heating only works sporadically. Commissioners approved the low bid from Bob Crawford for $2,917 during Thursday’s meeting.
Also at the meeting, commissioners honored Lyon County employees for their years of service:
- 5 years: Rodney Gragg, Sidney Newton and Sidney Morgan, all of Road and Bridge; Cory Doudican, Jarrod Fell, Margaret Hughes, Sarah Rees, Rhonda Schwindt and Glenda Sunter, all of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office; Candice Brecht and Susan House, custodians; Amy Aranda and Carol Coleman, county attorney; Megan Broyles and Erin Rodriguez, Community Corrections.
- 10 years: Vernon Buck and Sue Stephens, county attorney; Douglas Stevens and Keith Vogts, Road and Bridge; Russel Skelton and Johnny Zabriskie, Lyon County Sheriffs office; Chrysann Phipps and Robert Sullivan, Community Corrections; Christine Wilkinson, maintenance.
- 15 years: Roxanna Ashlock, Lannette Linebarger and Karen Hartenbower, County Clerk; Joseph Collins, Road and Bridge.
- 20 years: Debra Redding, appraiser; Russell Torrens, household hazardous waste; Peggy Humphrey and Chip Woods, Road and Bridge; Thomas Leihsing, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.

On Friday 12/19/2008 they also honored Fred Kurzen for 40 years of service. He started at Road and Bridge in 1969 and has been there faithly every since. They presented him a wonderful plaque and several Gift Certificates from his fellow employees. Just though you should know! He's got your last mention bunch beat by 20 more years! Thanks Fred!
