Admireed,
We were right there with you... from about 5:30 to 9:30 last night. Unfortunately, I'd just started dinner on an electric stove! Wished I'd had my propane stove from the old house... at least I could light that by hand.
Boys played poker by candlelight, then went to bed hoping school would cancel today. They were disappointed, of course, but Christmas break starts at 3:10 p.m.

Gwen, I had just finished an early dinner when it went out. Luckily we have a generator. Hubby plugged the pellet stove fan into it and the T.V. Yay hubby. Tv by candlight was joke of the evening according to the kids.

That's why my husband insisted on a propane stove we could light by match if need be. It was interesting cooking the frozen chicken nuggets I'd promised my son in the skillet by candlelight. He kept asking me why didn't go buy new power so he could turn the lights on. :)

Madpoet,
With moving to a new house under our belt, we're not inclined to pay to replace things right now. But I guarantee, when the electric range bites the dust, it will be replaced with propane-powered.
Only problem I have with that in power outages is that the self-igniting oven won't turn on (as you discovered last night).
