More than a dozen downtown merchants have fancy window dressings this holiday season for some fun, friendly competition.
Kayla Oney, executive director of Emporia Main Street, said the compeitition between downtown merchants is designed to be fun and is for a good cause.
“The window-decorating contest is a fun competition to get people downtown while they are shopping and strolling and enjoying the atmosphere of the holidays downtown,” Oney said.
Each participating merchant will have a money container at their store. To vote, people put their spare change or bills in the jar. The store with the most money wins. All the money goes to the United Way of the Flint Hills, Oney said.
The contest runs through Christmas weekend, ending on Dec. 28.
“This is kinda the last hurrah for Christmas shopping,” Oney said. “This week will be a good opportunity. It’s a great time to get last-minute shopping done. Many merchants are open later hours and extended days as well.”
