Lyon County commissioners had a light agenda during one of the final meetings of 2008 today.
During their weekly study session, commissioners talked about the purchase of a central air unit for one a county-owned shop building used by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office. Mark McKenna, of facilities management, said there is no air conditioning in the building and the heat works sporadically. He suggested purchasing a new central unit, which would do both. McKenna said the funds for the item could come out of facilities’ budget.
In other business:
F Commissioners discussed a notice of a road closing at Road 170 between Overlander Road and Road G.
F Commissioners discussed an electrical fence located along Old Old Highway 50 that is being used to keep stock from entering the road. The electrical fence is set up about two feet of the highway, said Chip Woods, Lyon County engineer. Woods said his office has received complaints about the fence.
“This one is a temporary and we have them all over this time of year,” Woods said. “Generally they don’t leave them up year round.”
F Commissioners discussed the railroad crossings in rural Lyon County at Roads U and V. County Commission Chair Scott Briggs asked Woods if he had heard from BNSF Railway regarding the crossings, which are steep and is a hazard to landowners who farm the land on the other side of the tracks. Woods said he has not heard from the railway. County Attorney/County Counselor Marc Goodman had earlier suggested filing a complaint against the railway on the crossings. Commissioners continue to keep tabs on the situation.
F Commissioners discussed the ADA rest room remodel at Flint Hills Community Health Center and a county shop. McKenna said the remodels are moving along quickly.
“I’ll be surprised at the rate they are going that it will take the full 90 days,” he said.
