THIS IS the season of giving, and if you are struggling to find that perfect gift for someone who has everything, then why not give a donation to a worthy cause in the gift recipient’s name?
According to one television commentator, donations are one of the hottest gifts of the year.
If you look through the pages of tonight’s paper you will see several non-profit organizations trying to earn your holiday shopping dollars.
On Page 8, you will find an ad from the United Way. The ad contains information of what community organizations the United Way funds and how they benefit the community. The United Way is in the midst of its annual campaign and it desperately needs your help. The organization has only two more weeks to raise $150,000 to meet their $600,000 goal.
On Page 10, you will see an ad from the Emporia Community Foundation. The foundation manages 31 funds that people can donate to. Those funds provide scholarships, help children and benefit the community. For $25 or more, you can indicate one or more funds to which you would like the money to go.
On most days, you will see an ad in The Gazette from the Emporia Arts Council, which is selling tickets to “Nunsense” and seeking donations to construct a new arts center next to the Granada Theatre. The proposed facility will make a terrific addition to our downtown and help promote arts and entertainment in our community.
Giving to a worthy cause in the name of a friend or loved one is a heart-warming gift that anyone would enjoy receiving.

Final Thought: If you would like to give your self a gift, you might think about tax credits. The William Allen White house has tax credits ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. The donation will not only benefit the state historic site but it will also reduce the amount of money you owe the IRS. See Page 12 for more information.
