The Emporia High girls dropped from No. 7 to No. 9 in this week’s Kansas Basketball Coaches Association rankings for Class 5A.
The Lady Spartans fell in the rankings after losing at Gardner-Edgerton 41-29 last Friday. Emporia and Gardner-Edgerton swapped places, as the Trailblazers took over the No. 7 spot. The rest of the top 10 in Class 5A this week was: Carroll in the No. 1 spot, followed by Shawnee Heights, Aquinas, Miege, Great Bend, Andover Central, Liberal in the No. 8 spot and Lansing at No. 10.
In the Class 3A girls rankings, the Northern Heights Wildcats entered the rankings at No. 10 following their undefeated run at the Herington Tournament. Meanwhile, Osage City fell out of the top 10 in Class 3A after being ranked No. 8 last week.
Olpe’s girls, ranked No. 3 in Class 2A last week, dropped out of the rankings this week following their 47-32 loss at Lebo — and conversely, the Wolves entered the rankings at No. 10. In the Class 1A girls rankings, Madison entered at No. 10 despite a 55-37 loss at Southern Coffey County on Friday.
In the KBCA boys rankings, the only area team ranked in a class top 10 last week held steady. Olpe remained at No. 3 in Class 2A after beating Lyndon 45-44 and Lebo 65-35 last week.
