Madison
The Madison News reported that John Whitmore, Madison High School class of 2007 received his high school diploma during the USD 386 board of education meeting recently. Whitmore was not able to graduate with his class because he was short some credits. After completing the required credits through a computer program, he was presented with a diploma.
Burlington
The Coffey County Republican reported that the Burlington City Council has a full house after Mayor Rick Raymer appointed Forrest Rhodes to fill a vacant seat created by Pete Kennamore. Rhodes will serve until April 2011.
Strong City
The Chase County Leader-News reported that Strong City is one of 18 potential stops for the Amtrak expansion of service between Kansas City, Oklahoma City and Fort Worth. According to a Dec. 4 Amtrak/Kansas Department of Transportation News release, Strong City and 17 other communities are being considered as train stops for state-sponsored passenger rail service. KDOT and Amtrak have agreed on a Amtrak Expansion Feasibility Study. KDOT has budgeted $200,000 for the study.
