When Emporia State takes the court tonight against Central Missouri, the Lady Hornets will see the closest thing to mirror images of themselves.
Like Emporia State, Central Missouri’s only loss was at Texas A&M-Kingsville, one day before ESU lost to Kingsville. Plus, the Jennies play a similar style.
“They do a lot of the same things we do on the offensive end,” ESU coach Brandon Schneider said. “They like the drive-and-kick game and they’ve got 3-point shooters, yet they do have a low post presence. We hope it’s a challenge. We hope we play well enough to be in the game.”
Emporia State has opened the conference season with two wins at White Auditorium, and the only time the Lady Hornets have played a true road game this season, they lost.
“We’re not even thinking about that,” Ida Edwards said. “We’re past that. We hate to lose that one, but it’s MIAA time. We’re going in with the same game plan, sticking to our system and try to come out with a win.”
Emporia State let a big lead slip away at Kingsville, and Schneider knows his ladies cannot let up if they get ahead again tonight.
“I don’t know that we’ll bring up the Kingsville game,” Schneider said. “If you’re going to win or be in the hunt for conference championships, you do that on the road. Home games you have to position yourself to win those obviously, but the team that plays the best on the road is obviously going to be the one that probably gets the title.”
