Olpe events

Santa Claus will be at Olpe City Hall from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Children of all ages are welcome. The City of Olpe is sponsoring a Christmas Lighting Contest again this year.

All Olpe water customers are eligible to participate. The judging will be done by independent judges from Emporia on Monday evening. Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place winners.

Donations for Head Start children

Donated hats, gloves , mittens and scarves for children 3- to 5-years-old in the Head Start program are being accepted at Sterling House, 1200 W. 12th Ave. through Dec. 19. For more information, call Sonja Bonebrake at (620) 481-9484.

Adoption workshop

A free China adoption workshop held by Great Wall China Adoption, a non-profit organization dedicated to place abandoned girls from China, will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Jan. 24 at the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library, 1515 SW 10th Avenue. Democratic party changes

The Lyon County Democratic Central Committee met Tuesday at the Rodeway Inn to elect officers for the next two years. Officers are Susan G. Fowler, chairman; Mike Dorcey, vice-chairman; Bill Ballard, treasurer; and Alan Rees, secretary.

Members of the Committee thanked Jerry Karr for serving as party chairman since 2000. Also recognized were Chris Bartel, James Bordonaro, Mike Dorcey, Kitty Frank, Dora Hartig, Carol Strickland and Phil Winter for their runs for offices in the fall election. Virginia Cunningham was thanked for her work as office manager during the campaign.
