Delane Drive Toy drop starts tonight

Friday, December 12, 2008

Santa Claus will be on DeLane Drive tonight for the first night of the annual Christmas toy drop. The toys collected will be donated to the Salvation Army.

Santa will be at 2314 DeLane Drive, the toy drop-off point, to receive toys and talk to children. The drop will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight and Saturday night.

As every year, the neighborhood around DeLane drive will be decorated for the holidays, so families can donate toys, visit Santa and tour the lights.

Other holiday events this weekend include:

• The First United Methodist Church Youth Christmas Festival from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the Jubilee Ringers Christmas Concert at 4 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, 823 Merchant St. The church’s handbell ringers will provide the music and coffee and desserts will be available.

• A dance production, “The Christmas Attic,” will be presented at 7 p.m. Saturday in Albert Taylor Hall at Emporia State University.

• The Kris Kringle’s Kid Shoppe will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at 725 Commercial St. The shop is stocked with gifts under $10 for children to purchase for their families.

• Santa — that busy guy — will be back from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday to visit with children who come to ride the Sertoma miniature train at Soden’s Grove.

• The Emporia Municipal Band will bring a little whiff of summer back to town with their free Christmas concert at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Granada Theatre. Donations will be accepted to help support next summer’s concerts.
