Holiday programs

The First United Methodist Church Youth Christmas Festival will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. At 4 p.m. Saturday, the Bell Choir Christmas Concert will be in Fellowship Hall.

The Americus United Methodist Church presents a “Service of Las Posadas (Shelter) for the Holy Family” at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, after which there will be a Tamale and Rice Dinner. Special guests will be La Esperanza UMC of Emporia. A Service of Las Posadas (Shelter) draws upon Mexican custom and practice. It is a highly communal and participatory liturgy. It is dramatic and contemporary and it engages people in imaginative and biblical recollection of the story of God coming into the world and of the holy family’s searching for a place for Jesus to be born.

The Junior and Senior choirs will present the cantata, “And Glory Shone Around,” during the 11 a.m. worship service Sunday at the Lebo United Methodist Church. Narrators will tell the Christmas story and the Junior Choir members will act out the Christmas story. The Senior Choir will be directed by Jean Rowley; the Junior Choir will be directed by Sara Evans.

The First Congregational Church will present “a Night in Bethlehem,” a “hands-on Holy Land Experience” for adults and children from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Registration starts at 2:30 p.m. Those attending will “hear festive music, wander through the bakery and create fun projects in the marketplace shops — encounter a frantic census taker — and meet shepherds who can’t wait to share a remarkable story,” stated the church bulletin. St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Sunday school presents “The Best Present of All” at 6 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Americus Southern Baptist Church meets for worship at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, after Sunday school for all ages at 9:30 a.m. Nursery care is available for the morning service. Bible study begins at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Worship services are at 9 a.m. in Miller with Sunday school at 10 a.m; Admire worship service, which includes Sunday school, 10 a.m., with Sunday school for adults, 11:20 a.m.; Allen worship service is at 11:15 a.m. after Sunday school at 10 a.m.

Twelfth Avenue Baptist

Twelfth Avenue Baptist Church worships at 9:15 and 11 a.m. in the south building; Fellowship Time is from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Adult Equipping classes are available at 9:15 a.m. with Equipping classes for all ages offered at 11 a.m. Child care for infants and toddlers and Disciple Land for ages four through 4th grade are available during both services. Life groups for middle school through adult meet 6 to 8 p.m.

AWANA (Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed) for children from the age of 3 years through the eighth grade meets from 6 to 7:30 p.m. every Wednesday at the church to “memorize Bible verses, learn about God and have fun.” Transportation is available by calling 342-4142 (if one has ridden the bus in the past, he/she will need to call again).
