Praises doctor

Thursday, December 11, 2008

MY NAME is Cheryl Walker. I am an R.N. I live in Texas now, but I was born at Newman Hospital in 1961. This last summer my grandmother was a patient at Newman.

She had a severe head injury that required surgery. Dr. Robert Dorsey was her surgeon. He did a fantastic job with his surgery and the care he provided. He went above and beyond his duty in that he made follow-up visits to the nursing home to see my grandma after she was released from the hospital. This is something her primary doctor never did in the five years she has been in the nursing home. My family was in crisis, and Dr. Dorsey was the only person at Newman that we could turn to or trust.

Since my grandmother’s hospitalization, I have reviewed over 800 pages of her medical record. Dr. Dorsey was the only doctor looking out for my grandmother’s best interest. Thanks to him, her wound that had MRSA is completely healed. More than that, she is still alive.

I hope you realize what a gem you have there in Dr. Dorsey, not only as a top-notch doctor but also as the fine person that he is. He is a people person. He knows how to make people feel better emotionally as well as physically. Frankly, I do not know what we would have done without him. We just cannot thank him enough for all he has done and continues to do for my grandma and my family.

I can tell you from my professional experience, Dr. Dorsey is a rare find. One of very few doctors who still truly cares about his patients and their families. Newman is very lucky to have him and so is this family. I thought you needed to know what a professional with personal experience, and from the outside saw in your Dr. Dorsey.

Several years ago, my husband's grandma had to have a leg amputated. Dr. Dorsey did the surgery and was wonderful. He finished the surgery in record time when her vitals became unstable. He worked tirelessly on her other foot to try to save it. Age and diabetes took their toll and her other lower leg also had to be removed. Dr. Dorsey was so kind and generous with his time and skills. I was really impressed with him. He really is a wonderful person.

Dr Dorsey is superb. He also commutes to Topeka and Halstead. Good for them but not so much for us. OK, so I'm selfish - he's excellent and I want to keep him here in case we need him again. You cannot do better than Dr Dorsey, his personal and his office families. All good people.

Dr. Dorsey...you rock!! The treatment I received at the Wound Care Clinic, from you and your awesome staff, was great. Thanks for sharing your amazing skills with me and the many other people who have benefitted from your care and loving-kindness. Sincerely, Kelly
